Picture of 15 Municipalities: BJP's historic 'clean sweep'
The BJP has maintained its dominance in the urban areas of Gujarat. The BJP has won all 15 municipal corporations, including 6 old and 9 new ones.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation: Out of the total 192 seats, BJP has won 160 seats, while Congress has got only 32 seats. However, the victory of the entire Congress panel in Khadia ward, which is considered a BJP stronghold, is considered the biggest reversal.
Surat Municipal Corporation: BJP has won 115 seats in Surat, crossing the 100 mark for the first time. AAP's state general secretary Manoj Sorathia has been defeated here.
Rajkot and Jamnagar: BJP has won 65 seats in Rajkot. In Jamnagar, 3 Muslim candidates of BJP have emerged victorious, which is an important development.
Morbi Municipal Corporation: BJP has achieved such a victory in Morbi that it has not even allowed the opposition to open its account.
Statistical analysis of municipal council seats:
Out of the total 1044 seats, BJP has won 937, Congress 95 and others 12 seats.
District Panchayat: Zero opposition in Botad and Porbandar
At the district panchayat level, BJP has made a historic clean sweep in many seats. Out of the total 1090 seats, BJP has secured a clear majority by winning 890 seats.
Botad: BJP has won all 20 seats.
Porbandar: BJP has captured 16 out of 18 seats (including 2 unopposed).
Rajkot: BJP has won 34 out of 36 seats. Here, BJP veteran leader Rajubhai Dangar has been defeated in the Movia seat.
Banaskantha: BJP has won 25 seats in the district panchayat, while Congress has got 11 seats.
Special result: BJP has established absolute rule with Sabarkantha (28 seats), Surendranagar (31 seats) and Amreli (31 seats).
The magic of Aam Aadmi Party in Narmada
While the entire state was in the BJP wave, Narmada district has given surprising results. Out of the total 22 seats in Narmada district panchayat , Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won 15 seats with a landslide victory. BJP has been reduced to just 7 seats. 'AAP' has captured important seats like Kevadiya, Dediyapada and Sagbara.
Taluka Panchayat: BJP storm at the rural level
Out of the 5234 seats in the 260 taluka panchayats of the state, BJP has won 3422 seats. Even before the elections, BJP had created a record by winning 252 seats unopposed.
Amreli: BJP has won 16 out of 18 seats in Amreli Taluka Panchayat. However, BJP has lost in Sonalben, daughter of folk writer Maya Bhai Ahir, and her village Borda.
Tapi and Talala: BJP has won 73 seats in Tapi and Congress has won 55. In Una of Gir Somnath, BJP has won 20 out of 26 seats.
Tie situation: There is a tie between BJP and AAP in Junagadh Taluka Panchayat (9-9 seats) and Chhota Udepur Taluka Panchayat (13-13 seats), which will create new equations to gain power.
Important highlights and upsets
Uncontested seats: The BJP had won more than 700 seats (municipal, municipal and panchayat combined) uncontested even before the polls.
Defeat of former IPS: BJP candidate and former IPS Manoj Ninama has lost by 2700 votes in the Auda district panchayat seat of Aravalli.
Defeat of former MLA: Bhupat Bhayani, who left AAP and joined BJP, lost from Bhensan seat by 1700 votes.
Victory by one vote: Congress candidate Mohsin Pathan has won the Palej Taluka Panchayat seat in Bharuch by a margin of just 1 vote.
Winning by tossing of lots: In the big Ghansari seat of Keshod, there was a tie between BJP and AAP, in which the AAP candidate was declared the winner.
In these results, Congress has put up a fight in Patan, Banaskantha and Tapi, but failed to gain power. On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party has strengthened its presence in Saurashtra and the tribal belt. Despite the tussle in rural areas, the BJP has been able to retain all 15 municipal corporations due to the polarization of urban votes. The results of these elections, which came amid news of the end of the ceasefire on April 21, have shown the organizational strength of the BJP in the state and the success of the implementation of 'new rotation'.
