Adani Defence and Aerospace in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh handed over the first batch of 2,000 'Prahar' Light Machine Guns (LMG) to the Indian Army. These 7.62 mm calibre weapons have been manufactured at the Small Arms Complex in Gwalior. The government will use these weapons to enhance security and lethality along the LAC and LoC. The 'Prahar' LMG has a lethal range of up to 1,000 metres, allowing it to target enemies from a distance. The machine gun weighs 8 kg and is 1100 mm long. It can fire 700 rounds in a minute.

A programme was organised at the Gwalior-based plant on Saturday to hand over the LMGs to the army. Defence Ministry DG A. Ambrasu, company CEO Ashish Rajvanshi and other senior officials were present. The officials flagged off the trucks carrying the first batch of machine guns.

Project completed in 6 years, delivery ahead of schedule Company CEO Ashish Rajvanshi said that it took about 6 years to complete this project from submission of bid to delivery. The company has handed over the first consignment 11 months ahead of schedule. Earlier, more than 7 years were set to place the entire order, but the company will complete it within the next 3 years. Order for 40,000 machine guns According to the company, the total order for LMG is about 40,000 units.

Defence Ministry official A. Ambrasu praised the early delivery and said that this proves that the capacity is available to complete the project quickly. Plant capacity and technology The centre, built in Gwalior, is spread over about 100 acres and has an annual production of about 1 lakh weapons. More than 90% of the materials used in it are manufactured in the country.

There is also an underground firing range here, where officers practiced marksmanship. According to the company, this center has the capacity to manufacture about 30 crore small caliber ammunition every year. There are also plans to increase the capacity to manufacture large and medium caliber ammunition. Rigorous testing of each weapon The company said that each weapon has to undergo several tests before being inducted into the army. This includes ballistic tests, environmental checks and other technical evaluations, so that the weapon is completely reliable and trustworthy.
