The General Administration Department of the Gujarat government has ordered the transfer and assignment of additional charges to 17 IAS officers in a major change in the administrative structure of the state. Under this decision, 14 officers have been transferred, while 3 officers have been given additional charges. The transferred officers include prominent faces including Alok Kumar Pandey and Gaurang Makwana. These changes will see a change in the responsibilities of collectors, district development officers and important departments like information, rural development and sports in many districts of the state.
As preparations for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit are in full swing in the state, the decision taken regarding the 'Industrial Extension Bureau', an institution considered very important for industrial investment, has become a topic of discussion. 2012 batch IAS officer Gaurang H. Makwana, who is currently working as the Managing Director of UGVCL in Mehsana, has been given the additional charge of iNDEXT-B. iNDEXT-B is the main institution that attracts investors from home and abroad, coordinates government approvals and acts as a nodal agency for the Vibrant Summit. With the assignment of an additional in-charge instead of a full-time officer in such an important institution, there has been a discussion in administrative circles about the impact it will have on the conduct of meetings between Mehsana and Gandhinagar and the speed of investment decisions.
